Talibanism

As this matter is very controversial during our times, I'm going to write the post both in English and Romania so that more people will understand the meaning of my words and not think that I'm a terrorist or anything. No, I'm just a simple guy from Romania, born in a provincial town, who likes to do something that most people don't actually do although they say the contrary: I'm actually using my brain to form my own opinions, based on all the things I see around me and all the "news" that's coming to my knowledge.
When I say "Talibanism", most people think about those psychopaths who destroyed Afghanistan, a country which back in the 50's seemed to be on the road towards a democratic regime. This post is not about them. I am sympathetic to all the people who are being mistreated by extremists of all kinds in the whole world, but I'm writing about something else.
I think most people who have a sense of reality and decency have noticed this weird trend that's being considered pretty attractive by some, and I'm talking about some sort of extreme religion that has next to nothing to do with the teachings. The Islamist groups are the most talked about because they are terrorists, but let's take a look around us. Somehow I understand the trend. Because of the insecurity that's been established during the last six to seven years, many people have lost their hope and found a shelter in religion. I mean, let's just see what happened in recent years: economic and financial crisis, the Arab Spring, the Ukrainian Revolution, terrorism, ISIS, the specter of war that's floating around the whole world, drug use, teen pregnancy, poverty etc. There are more than seven billion people in the world, we live in the era of information and we find out about all kinds of tragedies going on everywhere. That;s why some people choose to be more religious, but this is also... how should I say... it's also kinda dangerous. Remember, people: the Church is the House of God, but it's been built by humans. The institution called Church is being run by humans. The teachings are being shared by humans. Most humans are not too bright or wise. Don't think that just because someone is a priest or a monk, he is also wise. Lately I have met people who think that being a priest is just a job, not caring about the spiritual value of the teachings or the religion. Money is all that matters for those people (don't get me wrong, there are also lots of people who are truly gifted priests) and that is anything but wisdom.
They say that asking for advice is not a sign of stupidity, but a sign of wisdom. I agree with that, but it doesn't mean that you should go ask for advice about all (or most) of the decisions in your life. My dear friend, it's your life. You should learn to make your own decisions, although sometimes it's very hard. You will make mistakes, but let's be serious... Who doesn't? You are human and mistakes are some of the most humane things in life. There;s no need to go ask a priest whether you should go to Math college or not; it's your life, he knows next to nothing about you. There's no need to go all extreme about your religion either. Each individual is free to believe in what he wants. You shouldn't come to me and tell me that what X (a priest, spiritual leader, philosopher or any other human being) said is the true truth and don't even listen to my opinion because I don't agree with you (yes, I've been through shit like that). This is something that I call Talibanism - I know this word doesn't really exist in English language, but it somehow does in Romanian.
And there are all kinds of Talibans. There are religious ones, political ones (people who argue because they have different political options, although the people who they are "fighting" for don't give a shit about them), vegetarian ones, vegan ones etc. My friends, don't try to impose your beliefs to anyone. Just say your opinion. If you don't agree with one's opinion (and I mean someone who you know very well), don't think low about him. Try to be more tolerant with one's opinions, beliefs or work. If you don't like someone's work, tell him your opinion, but don't be violent or anything. If his work is offensive, there are more civilized ways to get rid of it. The more you talk about it, the more controversy it's going to cause. And it's going to hurt you. Really, really bad.
Anyway, this is my point about non-Islamist Talibanism. You may agree with my opinion, you may not, either way you're free to do whatever you want. The choice is yours.

Just think about it.
